Khadak. Weird and Wonderful.

Some thought Khadak was “weird”, and some found it “wonderful”. Weirdly wonderful? Wonderfully weird?

I suspect that it isn’t a movie that you will forget about anytime soon. Although I’ve seen it several times, I’m still not really sure what is going on in the spiritual world of Bagi’s ancestors. Perhaps it’s supposed to be unfathomable. Who was the boy that Bagi exchanged knowing looks with on the road to relocation?

That scene, with the herders in the back of the military truck, took me back to my travels in Tibet. Just such a truck took us from Lhasa to Reting Monastery; a seven hour drive on bumpy roads, with inspections by Chinese soldiers along the way. My friend and I had to hide behind ladies skirts to avoid detection!  After leaving Tibet, we traveled across northern China, and visited Mongolia. I remember the obvious “outbreak of animal illness” ploy that the Chinese would use to prevent people from visiting certain places. God only knows what was going on there.
