I did say that this was the sixth MovieNight showing of John Huston’s Night of the Iguana<\/em>, but to be honest, I’m not sure! It might have only been the fifth time. In any case, it was really gratifying to be able to screen my favorite movie one more time to a house full of appreciative viewers. It feels a bit like evangelizing!<\/p>\n

For those of you who’d like to read it, here (once again, again) is “Nonno’s” beautiful, final poem:<\/p>\n

How calmly does the olive branch
\nObserve the sky begin to blanch
\nWithout a cry, without a prayer
\nWith no betrayal of despair<\/em><\/p>\n

Some time while light obscures the tree
\nThe zenith of its life will be
\nGone past forever
\nAnd from thence
\nA second history will commence<\/em><\/p>\n

A chronicle no longer gold
\nA bargaining with mist and mold
\nAnd finally the broken stem
\nThe plummeting to earth, and then<\/em><\/p>\n

An intercourse not well designed
\nFor beings of a golden kind

And still the ripe fruit and the branch

Oh courage! Could you not as well
\nSelect a second place to dwell
\nNot only in that golden tree
\nBut in the frightened heart of me<\/em><\/p>\n
